When working or conducting outdoor detection at night, night vision devices are essential tools. However, infrared night vision devices (Infrared Night Vision Device) and low-light night vision devices (Low Light Night Vision Device) are often confused. Their core differences lie in working principles, applicable scenarios, and user experience.

In terms of working principles, low-light night vision devices form images by amplifying faint light in the environment (such as starlight or moonlight). They rely on natural or weak artificial light sources and cannot be used in completely dark "pitch-black" environments. In contrast, infrared night vision devices form images by actively emitting infrared light or receiving infrared radiation from objects themselves. Unaffected by ambient light, they can still provide clear visuals even in total darkness.

For applicable scenarios, low-light devices are more suitable for outdoor environments with weak light, such as night patrols and field observations, and their image colors are closer to the real environment. Infrared devices, on the other hand, are ideal for completely dark settings like underground mine detection and night search-and-rescue operations. They can also penetrate partial smoke and haze, offering greater stability.

Additionally, low-light devices are highly sensitive to strong light—exposure to intense light may cause damage or whitening of the image. Infrared devices have no such concern, but active infrared devices may be detected by infrared detectors, making their concealment slightly inferior to passive infrared and low-light devices. Choosing the right device based on the scenario ensures more efficient and safe night vision.
